Artwork Guidelines

Artwork files that are 5 megabytes or less can be sent as an e-mail attachment directly to our Art Department.

Larger files should be uploaded to our FTP server (scroll down for information).

Before submitting your artwork files please take note of the following guidelines (applies to both screenprinting and direct to garment digital imaging):

  • Our preferred file type for artwork submissions is vector art. This includes files created using Adobe Illustrator CS3 or earlier and CorelDraw X4 or earlier.

  • We also accept raster (bitmap) files (tiff, gif, bmp, psd-native Photoshop, etc.) but they should be at least 300 dpi at 100% of actual print size.

  • If your raster image is only one colour and not intended to include halftones then please convert the colour mode to black and white (not just greyscale).

  • Please be sure that all fonts are converted to outlines or curves and that extraneous objects, stray points, empty text paths and unused or non-printing layers are removed before submitting your file.

  • If there are raster images included in your vector file, be sure that they are at least 300 dpi at 100% of actual print size and that they are embedded (not just linked) into the file.

  • Be sure that you know how many colours are in your design and that you have assigned Pantone numbers or colour names to each colour.

  • We also accept pdf files but remember that these files are just containers and may contain vector or raster artwork. So be sure that you know what type of artwork is in the pdf file and that it meets above guidelines.

  • Although we are willing to look at any artwork files that you may have, artwork that does not conform to our preffered guidelines may either be unusable or require that artwork charges be applied.

If you have any questions regarding this information please send us an e-mail or give us a call.

Web Browser

If you're not sure how to use FTP software, try these step-by-step instructions for Internet Explorer. (For PCs only)

  1. Open My Computer, then find the files you want to upload on your local drive.
Highlight one or two of them, and select "copy" (Edit > Copy).
  2. Browse to this link in Internet Explorer:
    ftp://griffinhouse.com/incoming
If you are using Internet Explorer 6, skip to step 4.
  3. If you are using Internet Explorer 7, you will see this message:
    FTP directory /incoming at griffinhouse.com

To view this FTP site in Windows Explorer, select the 'Page' menu option in the right side of your browser's toolbar, and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer.
  4. Right-click in the empty space in this new window, and choose Paste
Note: you can simply drag & drop the files instead of copying/pasting, if you prefer.
  5. If it looks like your files are transferring successfully, then go back and Copy/Paste the rest of your files.
Note: when you refresh the window, your file will disappear. This is because the anonymous FTP is "write-only", to prevent other people from seeing your files.

Important: once finished, please send an e-mail to alert us that your files are there.
